CES 2017 Recap – Drones and UAVs

CES 2017 was a huge tech show as usual with some interesting trends emerging in relation to where money is being invested. As I’ve noted elsewhere on this blog, the growth of industrial/commercial tech at CES continues

For the past 3 years Drones and UAV’s have had a major presence at CES – this year they were spread far and wide with the major pavilion containing hundreds of vendors.

My key takeaways from CES 2017…

  1. The sheer volume of vendors was a surprise. The major suppliers were well represented which I expected – the number of new entrants was quite a surprise, particularly from China.
  2. Payloads and range – these metrics are getting very serious which leads me to question what the relevant Government agencies are doing to ensure proper use…
  3. Micro-Drones and low noise – at the other end of range/payload spectrum was the growth in micro-drones. This again raises some concerns around security and privacy…
